Hello everyone!
Today we would like to share a case study of Marko Tomasevic, a repesentative of Sky Sat d.o.o from Montenegro, who describes how Virtual Serial Port ActiveX by Eltima Software helps his daily routine.

industry: Telecommunication, HAM Radio.

Sky Sat d.o.o is telecommunication company owned by Ranko Boca, top-gun in HAM Radio world known as 4O3A (callsign). For past several years, under brand name “4O3A Signature”, they were developing and manufacturing high-end HAM radio equipment.
One year ago they started developing “Genius” series of USB/LAN-enabled devices that bring completely new user experience into HAM radio world, and basically put new technologies in use for something that has not been changed too much for a long time.

How Virtual Serial Port ActiveX helps Sky Sat d.o.o

Alex Taylor: What challenges made you search for this kind of software?

Marko Tomasevic: As our main goal with “Genius” series of hardware and software is simplicity therefore our main challenge was to find software that is easy to integrate, reliable and compatible with latest Windows operating systems so end-users are stress-free while implementing our solutions to their HAM radio stations.

Alex Taylor: How did get to know about Virtual Serial Port ActiveX by Eltima Software?

Marko Tomasevic: By doing online research, Eltima is known as one of the best on the market regarding Virtual Serial Port Driver/ActiveX. Also, we have got experience with few devices/software that already implemented your solutions and we did not have any issues at all with it.

Alex Taylor: Did you try other products for the same task before choosing Eltima solution? Why did you prefer our product?

Marko Tomasevic: Although one of our partner company is using FabulaTech product(s) for similar purpose, we decided to go on with Eltima, as by our research and user reviews, it stands out as a better one.

We have also tried several other products that are free, but as it complicates end-user experience, there is no doubt that Eltima’s solution is our best option.

Alex Taylor: Please, describe how you are using our product now.

Marko Tomasevic: We are in final stage of developing device that will act as a modem for remote HAM radio station.

On one end, on HAM radio location, there is radio station, antenna switchers and etc. connected to our modem device, and on other end, trough LAN or internet there is ano ther modem connected to a PC with USB cable.

Our software on PC, among other options, creates Virtual Serial Ports for several different usages that are on disposal of either by HAM radio logging software, or some other HAM radio software that uses Serial Port to gather or manage equipment on the other end.

All data received on Virtual Serial Port is sent to our modem via USB, then over network (LAN/Internet) to other end where it is sorted and sent to appropriate device (radio station, antenna switcher, etc.)

This key part of using Virtual Serial Port allows end-user to have experience same as he would have on a HAM radio location itself, therefore it would allow end-user to be anywhere in the world, and not bound to be physically on HAM radio location, usually situated on some hilltop away from civilization.

Alex Taylor: How did you benefit from using Virtual Serial Port ActiveX?

Marko Tomasevic: Eltima’s Virtual Serial Port ActiveX helps us make our product(s) compatible with so-called standard in HAM radio equipment. Serial Port is still widely used for communication between HAM radio software and hardware. By this fact, it helps us develop new-era devices that are still compatible with other software/equipment manufactured more than 20 years ago.
